The Multatuli and Bredero, both named after famous Dutch writers, were built in 2007 following a request from local government to design environmentally friendly ships for the canals of Amsterdam. Next to the obvious benefits of electric boats our guests really appreciate the noiseless character of these boats.

The City Tenders are specially designed for the canals offering optimal comfort and flexibility for various types of canal cruises in Amsterdam. Next to standard city tours and dinner cruises, the City Tenders are also an excellent location for special events such as cocktail workshops, corporate events or wedding ceremonies.

The spacious interior offers standing room height, movable furniture allowing almost any configuration you may desire. And due to the many windows, skylights and removable canopy’s, these boats have a very open character allowing your guests to fully enjoy the sights of Amsterdam.

The “trekschuit” can be roughly translated as “a pulled barge” and refers to one of the most interesting types of boats in Dutch history. Originally these boats had no engine and were moved forwards by using an ingenious system of poles, ropes and horses walking along riverside paths to “pull” the boat forward. This became a sophisticated system with different schedules and routes transporting people and goods throughout the Netherlands and was partly responsible for the late introduction of the railway system which replaced it.

The Hiledebrand and Jacob van Lennep, named after famous Dutch writers, have been completely refitted to accommodate a comfortable cruise in the canals of Amsterdam. And, although the horses have been replaced with environmentally friendly electric motors, you can still see traces of a former era. At the bow you’ll see the collapsible wooden masts to which the ropes that pulled the barge were attached.

These historic barges are a great way to experience the canals in an original way. The roof can be opened up, weather permitting, and both have a rear deck which is perfect for sitting back and enjoying the sights. Along with standing room inside and a cosy bar, these boats are ideal for a private party with friends or a networking happy hour with colleagues and associates.
