The Anna Maria’s story is rich with history, adventure and romance. From the time her construction began in 1909 in Ijlst, Friesland, she was destined to stand in a class all her own. Starting as a freight barge (“beurtschip”) she transported wooden barrels, bales and other goods throughout the Netherlands. After many years of dedicated service she slowly faded into retirement as the freight brokers chose other methods like railways, road transport or modern ships to take her place.
In 1995 she was saved from destruction and brought to Amsterdam where her cargo area was transformed into a spacious lounge to accommodate passengers. The riveted interior of the ship’s hold reminds us of her past giving the boat a robust atmosphere. The removable top makes this the perfect boat for happy hours, barbecues, wedding parties, team building and other events. A favourite among guests is the large rear deck which has to be one of the best places to watch colourful Amsterdam passing by.
